I used mainly type for my brochure and a limited amount of imagery because I wanted it to stand out. My brochure would have been available to buy at the The National September 11 Memorial, so I didn't want to use a lot of pictures of the memorial in my brochure because the reader would be seeing theses images up close in real life.
I decided to go for a more classy, modern typographical approach. This meant I had to think of an interesting layout using mainly type on every page. I used a variety of colours, typefaces, columns/grids.

final logo/marque
This is my final design for my logo, it's based on my old design but I curved the corners to give it a modern and sympathetic look, I also changed to colours, I thought the red and blue were a bit too much. I think the new colours give it a more classy modern look.

flag
I recently made an emulsion print of a battered looking flag to use somewhere in my brochure.
I think this image would work well in a page spead containing peoples accounts on what happened on 911.

more logo ideas
I went back to one of my old designs and used a bolder text (impact) to create these banners.
I really like the way these look. Using all blue text makes the red in the logo stand out.

I liked this angular geometric logo/marque, but when I added the text it had a bit of a "petrol station" look to it.

the fold out idea
This is the initial sketch for my folding paper model idea.
The reader would open the brochure to the middle page, read the instructions then begin to fold the middle pages to create the 3D paper models.
YEAH ROYYY!
These are the paper mock ups of my folding paper model idea.
I'm quite happy with the way they came out, I'm just waiting now to see what my classmates and tutors think.
outside the box
For the commemorative brochure/book I want to do something a little different than a standard corporative looking brochure. I want it to stand out and surprise the reader.
I was initially thinking of a fold out section in the brochure that contains a net that the reader can take out and create a paper model of the twin towers.
The model will also include the names of people that lost their lives on September 11th.

Brief
We've been asked to create and promote a brand identity for The National September 11 Memorial aswell as producing a commemorative book/brochure to celebrate the opening of the memorial.
